A simple all‐optical coherence‐free microwave notch filter is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The filter is based on remodulation scheme using a narrow‐linewidth laser, an intensity electro‐optic modulator, and a Sagnac fiber loop reflector to eliminate the coherent limitation and phase‐induced intensity noise. Both Mach‐Zehnder modulator and electroabsorption modulator are used in the microwave photonic filtering system, and different frequency responses are observed, respectively, in the experiment. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
