Abstract The tunable‐dispersion characteristics of a side‐polished fiber Bragg grating (FBG) encapsulated in a polymer‐half‐filled metal cylinder are investigated at different pressures exerted on polymer. The related group velocity delay, chromatic dispersion, and polarization dispersion of the reflection bandwidth of side‐polished FBG are measured and analyzed for applications in optical communication systems. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
