A low‐profile planar vehicle antenna for the roof of a car is proposed for use with terrestrial services. Despite its low configuration, the proposed antenna can realize a vertical polarization. To demonstrate its performance, the proposed antenna is mounted on the roof of a mid‐sized vehicle, and the radiation patterns are measured at three different positions. The omnidirectional patterns are observed in an azimuth plane with 2 dBi of peak gain at 2.3 GHz. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
