A low profile all‐metal mechanically robust circular microstrip patch antenna at S‐band frequencies is presented. The single coaxial feed circularly polarized antenna was optimized for a 3‐unit CubeSat structure. Good correlation between simulated and measured results was obtained. The measured antenna has a maximum gain of 8.9 dBi, and the −10 dB reflection coefficient bandwidth is 5.4%. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
