The problem of the analyzing mutual coupling for the conformal array in practice is addressed. Experiment is designed for the sectoral cylinder conformal array composed of 12 cavity‐backed stacked microstrip antennas. Based on the measurement element complex patterns, the phase pattern calibration technique and least squares method are adopted to calculate the mutual coupling matrix (MCM) for the conformal array. It is shown that the actual array pattern modified by MCM agrees well with the ideal desired pattern, which confirms the validity and accuracy of the calculation of the MCM. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
