A new microstrip antenna employing an arrow‐shaped slotted ground has been developed to enable circularly polarized radiation with a super‐compact size. By embedding the axis‐symmetrical arrow‐shaped slot on the ground plane, the resonant frequency is substantially lowered and orthogonally polarized modes are achieved without any degradation in the radiation performance. Simulated and measured results show that the proposed antenna has about a 62% reduction in size and a remarkable circular polarization performance at the resonant frequency. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
