A novel ultra wideband (UWB) antenna with coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed, consisting of a circular patch and a ground plane truncated with two mirror T–shaped notches is designed for UWB applications. The design has been used as a circular patch with circular slots which produces a semi fractal hexagonal shaped patch. Proposed antenna operates in the adopted bandwidth (3.1–10.6 GHz) with S 11 < −10 dB, and covers it very well. Experimental and simulated antenna results show that the proposed antenna has a desirable S 11 level and radiation pattern characteristics for the UWB frequency band range. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
