We propose a fuzzy learning method by a descent technique, to calculate the characteristic parameters of elliptic‐ and circular‐shaped microshield lines.From input–output data, generated using conformal mapping technique, the inference rules expressing the input output relation of the data are obtained automatically using the proposed fuzzy inference system. The learning speed of this method is substantially higher than that of the neural model. The numerical results are in very good agreement with the results reported elsewhere. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
