In this article, a novel guest–host nonlinear optical material is synthesized by using poly(methylmethacrylate) as the host and Disperse Red 19 as the guest. This material can be synthesized easily. A high cost‐performance electro‐optic switch using the coplanar waveguide electrodes operating at 1550 nm has been designed and fabricated. Switching time of device is less than 114 ns. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 53:2653–2657, 2011; View this article online at wileyonlinelibrary.com. DOI 10.1002/mop.26334
