The detailed study of a planar asymmetrical dipole, realized on a ε r = 4.50 substrate, with a rectangular slit etched on one of the two dipole arms, is described in this paper. The measured prototype fulfills the bandwidth requirements of both ultrawideband and WLAN communications at 2 and 5 GHz. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
