A tunable defect mode with a voltage tuning mechanical is demonstrated. A varactor has been introduced into a 1D comb‐like photonic crystal and a defect mode occurs in the band gap. Frequency of the defect modes are controlled by the reverse bias voltage applied to the varactor. The defect peak in the transmission spectrum shifts towards high frequency as the reverse bias voltage increases. The simulating results agree well with the experimental results. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett, 2011; View this article online at wileyonlinelibrary.com.
