We propose and experimentally demonstrate simultaneous all‐optical amplification, inversion and format conversion based on self‐induced nonlinear effects in a single semicondctor optcial amplifier. All these functions are verified for injected amplitude‐shift keying signals with variable extinction ratios from 5 to 12 dB. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
