The design of a bandwidth‐enhanced uniplanar MPA using EBG‐AMC is presented. The designed structure with neither via holes nor multilayer substrates yields bandwidth enhancement still with useful radiation pattern values in its band. Two prototypes, a MPA and a PA with uniplanar EBG‐AMC (PA_U‐EBG‐AMC), are manufactured and characterized based on return losses and radiation pattern. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
