Abstract This letter focuses on an acceleration method using a child node construction to completely enhance the wave propagation prediction time in linking between parent and child nodes. The child node construction, corresponding and linking with an actual parent node, is called an interobject visibility set (IVS) and is a source‐independent (i.e., transmitter or image) structure. Also, child node construction is independent of database information and is used for linking dynamically to a higher‐order parent node. After linking, the entire ray path construction is completed from the receiver to transmitter, and the received signal level is estimated using backward ray tracing. Finally, we demonstrate that the computational time needed for ray tracing prediction less than in a general ray tracing prediction method, and the prediction results using the ray tracing model are in good agreement with measurements at the millimeter wave band in terms of accuracy. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
