A tunable reflection‐type phase shifter, which consists of a quadrature coupler and a piezoelectric transducer (PET), is presented. The proposed phase shifter shows double phase shifts of the conventional PET‐controlled phase shifter by calculation. Measured results of the phase shifter show a maximum phase shift of 132° with respect to the unperturbed condition at 9.7 GHz. An insertion loss ( S 21 ) and a return loss (S 11 ) are better than 1.85 and 14.2 dB, respectively, and the insertion‐loss variation is within ±0.46 dB at 9.7 GHz. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
