This article investigates the impact of fiber nonlinear crosstalk on ultradense 32 × 16 QAM–WDM with coherent detection using Volterra series.The method is validated using Error Vector Magnitude measures against Split‐Step Fourier simulations. The cross‐phase modulation crosstalk contribution is derived and compared to four‐wave mixing and the overall system performance. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
