A multiband internal multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna for USB dongle applications is proposed. Two types of antenna element are used to construct a MIMO antenna system. The resonance frequencies of the MIMO antenna are controlled by the lengths of the two asymmetric arms or by the number of turns in a helix. The designed antenna provides wide bandwidth to cover LTE, DCN, and PCS‐1900 services, simultaneously. Although the MIMO antenna is installed within an electrically small USB dongle device, the isolation characteristic and antenna performance can be improved by using a two‐stage ground structure. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
