This article investigates the influence of milling process on properties of printed microwave circuits. Furthermore, design guidelines are proposed for optimizing the milling process by leaving large unmilled copper surfaces on the board without deteriorating circuit performance. The proposed concepts are experimentally verified. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 53:264–270, 2011; View this article online at wileyonlinelibrary.com. DOI 10.1002/mop.25724
