The broadband proximity‐fed rectangular microstrip antenna (RMSA) is proposed. The proximity‐fed antenna has larger bandwidth (BW) and is simpler in design when compared with L‐probe‐fed RMSA. Further, the BW of proximity‐fed antenna is increased by using multiresonator or slot cut configurations. The proposed antennas give a BW of more than 300 MHz (>30%) with broadside radiation pattern with peak gain of 8.5 dBi. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
