A novel broadband dual‐polarized cross‐pair dipole antenna is presented in this article. Two pairs of a folded dipole antenna are used as ±45° polarization element, respectively. With such a cross pair of folded dipoles, a polarization diversity antenna is constructed. A prototype antenna has been fabricated and tested. Results of simulation and measurement agree well and show the antenna exhibits encouraging properties, e.g., 10‐dB impedance bandwidth of 87.3% from 800 to 2040 MHz, which is much wider than that of conventional cross‐pair antennas, as well as a half‐power beamwidth within 65 ± 5° in the horizontal plane. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
