In this study, a new hybrid method is proposed to the analysis of waveguide structures loaded with arbitrary configuration of axially symmetrical posts. The method is based on a combination of finite difference frequency domain method, mode‐matching technique, and an analytical iterative scattering procedure. The results concerning the accuracy of the proposed technique are discussed. The validity of the proposed approach is verified with the analytical mode‐matching method, own measurements, commercial software, and the results published in literature. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
