A novel coplanar equilateral triangular‐ring slot antenna with dual frequency operation is proposed for WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) system in the 2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz operating bands.Impedance matching for both lower and upper operating bands at 2.4 and 5.8 GHz, respectively, are achieved by capacitively loading the inner triangular patch. To excite the 5.2‐GHz band, two T‐shaped slits are inserted into the triangular patch. The design flow of this antenna is clearly illustrated, and a prototype was constructed and experimentally investigated. Good radiation patterns and stable gain variation are measured for all operating bands. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
