A U‐shaped dielectric resonator antenna fed by a conformal triangle patch is proposed for ultrawideband communication applications. The multiband resonances of two parts, the U‐shaped dielectric resonator and the triangle patch, are combined to expand the antenna bandwidth. To validate the design, an optimized antenna prototype was fabricated and measured. A good agreement between the simulated and measured results is achieved, and a measured bandwidth of 84.1% around the center frequency 5.375 GHz is obtained with the broadside radiation. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
