A compact microstrip dual‐plane resonant cell structure is presented. Good lowpass performance and wide stopband characteristics can be obtained with a simple single resonant cell; multiple resonant modes are introduced in the stopband, thus rejection width is significantly improved. Measured results of the fabricated prototype show that the stopband bandwidth better than −20 dB is more than 13 GHz, but its occupied area is only 20 × 30 mm 2 . © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
