We designed and demonstrated experimentally a terahertz wave switch utilizing microstrip resonator structure. The switch mechanism of the presented terahertz wave switch is based on the resonance charactersitic of resonator microstrip structure controlled by without or with light excitation. The experimental results show that the ON–OFF response time is 10 ms and the attenuation of the novel terahertz wave switch is more than 28 dB at frequency of 0.325 THz. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
