An inductive stub is proposed for matching a monopole antenna used in mobile devices operating at GSM/WCDMA850/900/1800/1900 and WCDMA2100 bands. Simulated and measured return loss and insertion loss are presented for various feeding arrangements, including a shunt lump inductor and the inductive stub. It has been demonstrated that the proposed inductive stub has better insertion loss, better protection of electrostatic discharge and lower cost than the lump inductor. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
