The design of a miniaturized low‐profile monopole patch antenna is investigated. The printed configuration consists of a shorted center‐fed circular patch and a shorted concentric parasitic annular ring. Compared with the center‐fed circular patch antennas, this ensemble is a lower profile of 0.08λ 0 (at 2.442 GHz) and a smaller annular ring radius of 0.13λ 0 with 13.7% impedance bandwidth VSWR ≤ 2. Also, it has an average gain 3.5 dBi and omnidirectional radiation and is suitable for indoor wireless local area networks. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated ones. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
