This letter presents a very compact (17.5 mm × 24.2 mm or 0.18 λ 0 × 0.24 λ 0 ) and wideband balun at 3 GHz designed using the derived closed‐form solutions. The EM‐simulated difference of the transmitted signals at two ports is less than 0.6 dB from 2.45 to 6 GHz (118% at 3 GHz). Based on 180° ± 10° phase difference, the measured bandwidth of the proposed balun is 3.84 GHz from 2.16 to 6 GHz (or 128% at 3 GHz). © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
