A planar hexagonal patch monopole ultra‐wideband (UWB) antenna with band‐notch feature is proposed for UWB communication applications. The notched band is realized by cutting off a pair of tilted slot on the hexagonal patch, which can be tuned. The roles of various design parameters are characterized and examined. Optimal parameters are used eventually for experiments. Good agreement is achieved between the simulated and measured results. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
