In this article, a study of radiation performances of standard jeans buttons based on antennas is presented. Few metallic buttons were used as three‐dimensional‐monopole antennas, which are fed by printed microstrip lines on metalized FR4 substrates. The surface‐mounted monopole antennas were simulated, realized, and characterized experimentally. The influence of the button's geometry on the impedance matching and radiation patterns is discussed. In addition, buttons with plastic parts are also studied, and it is found that this type of buttons may allow the antenna miniaturization. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
