In this article, an active integrated microstrip antenna combining the output power of four field‐effect transistors (FETs) is described. The radiation pattern is similar to a four‐element phased array. The antenna is fed along its nonradiating edge thereby permitting the FETs to be connected directly to it. A prototype operating at 2.455 GHz demonstrates the feasibility of the antenna. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
