An ultrafast circuit for clock and carrier recovery in the microwave frequency range is presented. The circuit consists of a feedback loop amplifier with quadrate‐balanced amplification. It was fabricated on a common FR‐4 substrate, using only commercial surface mount devices components and having a surface acoustic wave filter as the resonant element. The basic feedback circuit was simulated and also realized. Experimental results demonstrate the clock recovery of a Gigabit Ethernet connection and the carrier recovery of a frequency modulation signal. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
