A new scheme of antenna for wireless body area networks is proposed. A coupling‐fed circular‐patch antenna with TM 01 mode is designed, simulated, and tested, which radiates omni‐directional pattern along the body surface and has linear polarization normal to the surface. Both simulated and measured results show this antenna satisfies the expected 9% bandwidth (5.725–5.875 GHz) for return‐loss ≤ −10 dB, and it is suitable for on‐body communication application. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
