Abstract In this article, a novel ultra‐wideband (UWB) antenna with band‐stop characteristic is proposed. The UWB characteristic of the proposed antenna is achieved by adopting two spiral elements. By attaching two L‐shaped stubs along the microstrip feed line, the band‐stop performance can be achieved. The designed antenna has a small size and operates across the frequency range from 3.17 to over 11 GHz to meet a 10‐dB return loss requirement while providing band‐stop performance in the frequency band from 5.14 to 5.96 GHz. Measured results reveal that the proposed antenna has good radiation performance and is suitable for UWB applications. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
