Abstract In this letter, a design of a compact ultrawideband (UWB) antenna is presented, which is based on the current distribution of the previously proposed UWB antenna. The portions with little current distribution are cut from the antenna with less effect on the antenna performance. The modified compact UWB antenna yields an impedance bandwidth of 3.0–50.0 GHz with return loss less than −10 dB. The antenna is successfully simulated, designed, and measured showing extremely broadband matched impedance, stable gain and omni‐directional radiation patterns. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
