Abstract A new synthesis procedure for interdigital filters with shorted‐pin feeds is developed by relating the coupling factors and external Qs to the physical structure of the filter. This new procedure is easily understood and applied, extremely flexible, and allows design tradeoffs to be evaluated in an intuitive way. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
