A new method that extends the application of spherical Wheeler cap to relatively small cavities of any shape is presented for radiation efficiency estimation. We introduce a modified Huynh formulation to take into account cavity losses when they are non‐negligible for high frequencies. These assumptions are consistent with experimental results, which are based on antenna measurements in cubic cavities and for different frequency bands. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
