An automatic method to assess and minimize the impact of four‐wave mixing crosstalk in WDM ring channels is presented. The objective is achieved by applying a genetic algorithm, which optimizes channel frequencies and tunes powers. This technique improvement result is validated experimentally. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
