The design of a novel planar loop antenna with an integrated coupling loop for RFID applications is described. The antenna consists of a center nonradiating coupling loop, which acts as a phase shifter to produce a radiating current distribution on the outer loop. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
