This article has investigated a novel complementary split‐ring resonator (CSRR) defected ground structure (DGS) theoretically and experimentally. The proposed CSRR DGS provides excellent performances including double resonant property, ripple in the passband, sharp selectivity at the cut‐off frequency, and spurious free wide stopband. The equivalent circuit model of the CSRR is also presented. Low‐pass filters using DGS units are fabricated to obtain wide reject band. The measured results show a good agreement with the theoretical analysis. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
