A novel ultra‐wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF) is presented using a half‐mode T‐septum substrate integrated waveguide combined with electromagnetic bandgap structures. When compared with conventional substrate integrated waveguide filters, its width is very small and can work in monomode over the UWB frequency range. The filter performance is demonstrated by our measured S‐parameters and group delay, which agree with the simulated results very well. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
