A wideband coplanar waveguide (CPW)‐fed monopole antenna is presented, which is derived from a dual folded‐strip antenna. By meandering the folded strips, good antenna performances such as wideband with 4.07 GHz, defined from −10 dB return loss, average gain of ≥4.5 dBi, and stable monopole‐like radiation patterns across the matching band are obtained. The proposed antenna is low‐profile and has a compact size, with, including ground plane, only 15 mm × 20 mm × 1.6 mm, suitable for wideband communication application. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
