A half E‐shaped patch antenna is analyzed using equivalent circuit model based on modal expansion cavity model. The antenna shows almost 50% reduction in size with the same performance as achieved by full E‐shaped patch. The proposed theory is verified by simulation and experimental results. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
