A modified method of lines is developed for solving electromagnetic scattering problems, when TM plane waves are incident on cylindrical structures with dielectric properties that are function of two spatial directions. Numerical performance of the proposed method are examined and found to be very satisfactory. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
