A small slot‐loaded elliptical antenna with a band‐notched for ultra wide‐band (UWB) applications is presented in this article. Printed on a dielectric substrate with relative permittivity of 4.4, thickness of 1 mm, and fed by a 50 Ω microstrip line, the proposed antenna satisfies the UWB bandwidth requirement of 3.1–10.6 GHz. A slot is used to reject the frequency band (5.15–5.825 GHz) limited by IEEE802.11a. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
