A novel ultra‐wideband microstrip patch antenna is presented. The proposed antenna exhibits an impedance bandwidth of 127% over an ultra‐wideband frequency range from 2.9 to 13 GHz, which makes it an excellent candidate for UWB applications. Simulated results are compared with the fabricated antenna measured performance, which show good agreement. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
