Abstract A novel dual‐band monopole antenna that consists of symmetrical G‐shaped strips and triangular branches, fed by a 50‐Ω microstrip transmission line is introduced. The designed antenna is proposed for wireless local area networks (WLAN) applications in the 2.4 and 5.2/5.8 GHz bands. The measured results explore broadband dual‐frequency operation with (10 dB) impedance bandwidths of 21.4% cenetrd at 2.575 GHz, ranging from 2.30 to 2.85 GHz, and 32.8% centerd at 6.12 GHz from 5.10 to 7.14 GHz. The omnidirectional pattern, good gain, and broad bandwidth performances over the operating bands have been obtained by the proposed antenna with relatively low profile, which is suitable for dual‐broadband wireless communication systems. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
