Abstract The phase centre of a dual‐mode circular microstrip antenna is investigated when the fundamental TM 11 and higher order TM 02 modes are excited. It is shown that the location of the phase centre can be controlled by the excitation amplitude and phase of these modes. The problem is treated analytically using the cavity model. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
