An ultra small low‐profile, top‐loaded, low‐Q hollow cylindrical monopole antenna for ultra‐wideband (UWB) operations is proposed. A hollow cylindrical radiator with ground plane for tapered effect is used to enhance the impedance matching and frequency range. The designed UWB antenna from 3 to 20 GHz is attainable. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
