A simple explanation is provided for the advantages of magnetic materials in microstrip antenna miniaturization. The observations are derived from a standard transmission‐line model, and the findings are qualitatively verified using numerical simulations. It is shown that the advantages of magnetic materials arise from the favorable antenna geometry and favorable feed technique. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
